Cross Country Ready for ACC Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Miami cross country program will compete in the ACC Cross Country Championships Friday morning.

The Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held at the Panorama Farms Cross Country Course in Charlottesville, Va. The women’s 6k race will start at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s 8k competition at 10:45 a.m.

“I feel that the team is ready to put out their best performance of the season,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said.

Miami has 12 student-athletes, five men and seven women, registered to compete in Friday’s races. Panorama Farms features two 5K courses, as well as a 6K, 8K and 10K course.

The Hurricane men will be led by seniors Douglas Dourado, JaCee Jarnagin and AJ Ricketts. Dourado has been Miami’s top male runner this year, opening the 2014 cross country season with a win at the FAU Invitational. He has two other Top 10 finishes on the season, placing seventh at the USF Invitational and third at the Westminster Academy Invitational. Dourado was also Miami’s top male finisher at the Mountain Dew Invitational and the Paul Short Run.

Sophomore Gabrielle Hesslau leads Miami’s women heading into the conference championship race. Hesslau placed first in 5K with a time of 19:55.7 at FAU Invitational and led the women’s team with a ninth place finish in the women’s 5K (19:01.83) at the USF Invitational. Hesslau completed the Paul Short 6K Run with a time of 22:49 that ranks 10th all-time on Miami’s 6K list and she enters this weekend’s ACC Championship fresh off a win in the 5K at the Westminster Academy Invitational.
