Haley Templeton Earns Second ACC FOTW Awrad

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second consecutive week, Haley Templeton was named the ACC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Templeton distributed 44 assists and helped the Canes hit .290 as a team in their four-set win over Clemson on Friday night. The freshman also had one of three Miami aces against the Tigers and finished a dig shy of a double-double.

Two days later, Templeton shined before a standing room only crowd at the James L. Knight Sports Complex. Facing No. 5 Florida State, the Alpharetta, Ga., native tied her career-high with 53 assists and added nine digs and a career-best three block assists.

“I’m so happy and can’t believe that I won two weeks in a row,” Templeton said. “I always wanted to make a statement as a freshman. I couldn’t do this without my teammates and I can’t wait to see how we progress as the season continues.”

A week ago, Templeton earned Miami’s first weekly award of the season when she was named Freshman of the Week for Sept. 29, 2014.

The freshman setter dished out 27 assists and helped Miami hit .271 in their ACC opener, a three-set victory over Notre Dame on Sept. 26. Templeton also recorded three of Miami’s 10 service aces against the Fighting Irish.

Two days later, Templeton distributed 21 assists and tallied two more aces in a match against Duke. She also was a perfect 4-for-4 in attacks, hitting 1.000 in two sets against the Blue Devils.

“I am excited for Haley,” Miami head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara. She is deserving after having another good week. She continues to grow as a volleyball player and is helping lead this group. She sets high expectations for herself and she continues to push herself to meet those expectations.”

Templeton has been impressive as a freshman, tallying 518 assists (10.57/set) over 15 matches this season. The 6-foot setter has also been a threat to attack, notching 32 kills on the season, and her 16 service aces lead the Hurricanes.

Templeton has accomplished several noteworthy feats this season. The freshman has recorded at least 20 assists in 14 of Miami’s 15 matches this season, including a career-high 53 assists three times (9/13 vs. Ball State, 9/20 vs. Missouri and 10/5 vs. Florida State). Templeton has at least one service ace in eight of 15 matches this season and has recorded her career-best three on three separate occasions (9/6 vs. Prairie View A&M, 9/19 vs. UNCG and 9/26 vs. Notre Dame).

The Canes hit the road this weekend, traveling to Syracuse and Boston College for a pair of conference matches. Miami will face Syracuse on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., while their match against Boston College will begin at noon on Oct. 12.
