Swimming & Diving Release 2014-15 Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Head coaches Andy Kershaw and Randy Ableman released the Miami Hurricanes swimming & diving schedule for the upcoming season Monday.
“We are really excited for this season and feel like our schedule will test us and prepare us appropriately,” Kershaw said. “Along the way we will see some of the best swimmers and divers in the country. When we get to ACC and NCAA championships, it is important that our student-athletes feel like they have already taken on the best and are ready to tackle anything.”
Miami will open its season at the All-Florida Invite in Gainesville, Fla., a weekend invitational running from Oct. 3-5. In addition to top programs across the state of Florida, this year’s Invite includes Cal – who finished third in last year’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships.
“All-Florida is a great way to kick things off,” Kershaw said. “It presents a challenge early on and adds urgency to our early season training.”
For the second consecutive year, the Hurricanes will compete in the SMU Women’s Classic (Oct. 17-18), an event held in Dallas featuring some of the premier teams in the country. Included in this year’s field are LSU, Louisville, NC State and Southern Cal.
“We’re eager to see how far we have come in a year,” Kershaw said of the Classic. “This meet features five other teams in a unique format, and always includes a multitude of NCAA qualifiers.”
Miami has a dual meet on the road with FGCU (Oct. 25) before its first official home meet: a matchup with Illinois State (Nov. 8) at the Whitten University Center complex.
The Hurricanes will once again return to Atlanta for the Georgia Tech Invite (Nov. 20-22), an event that could prove useful for Miami in the later months of the season.
“It will be one of the highlights of our fall and be a good gauge as to where we stand as a team,” Kershaw said. “It will be held at the same pool as ACC Championships and with the same event schedule, so this will be great preparation for the end of the year.”
Spring events include a home dual meet with Rutgers and Tulane (Jan. 10), a trip to Blacksburg, Va., for a showdown with host Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and UNC Wilmington (Jan. 24), the ACC Championships (Feb. 18-21) and NCAA Championships (March 19-21).
“We’re very proud to be in one of the top swimming & diving conferences in the country,” Kershaw said. “Our team is poised to have a lot more success at this year’s championships, and we can’t wait to see them succeed!”
