ACC Reveals Olympic Sports Broadcast Schedule
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami volleyball team will have three of its matches televised as part of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s 2014 fall sports broadcast schedule.
The Hurricanes will host the in-state rival Florida State Seminoles on Oct. 5 in a match that will be televised at 2 p.m. on ESPNU.
Miami will also have two of its road matches televised in 2014. The Hurricanes will be on ESPN3 when they face the Duke Blue Devils at 1 p.m. on Sept. 28. Miami’s match at NC State on Nov. 2 will be broadcasted on RSN/ESPN3 beginning at 1 p.m.
The three televised matches were included in Tuesday’s announcement of the ACC’s broadcast coverage for its Olympic sports for the upcoming fall season. Fans will have access to more contests involving league teams than ever before. The ACC’s media rights holders will distribute at least 122 events live, surpassing the previous record of 101 set last year.
Highlights of the ACC’s upcoming fall schedule include:
- 122 games, totaling 223 school appearances – the highest count in history for ACC fall Olympic sports.
- All 122 ACC fall contests will appear on an ESPN network, including six televised on ESPNU and 116 carried on ESPN3. All ESPN coverage will also be available on the WatchESPN mobile app.
- Sixteen games will be also be broadcast on the league’s regional sports networks (RSN), which include FOX Sports Carolinas, FOX Sports South, FOX Sports Florida, FOX Sports Indiana, Sun Sports, Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, NESN, YES, ROOT SPORTS, and MSG.
Miami’s 2014 roster features seven returners from the 2013 squad that reached the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive season.
Blair Fuentez, Savanah Leaf, Alexis Mourning and Emani Sims make up a senior class that Gandara will look to lead the Hurricanes in his second season in Coral Gables. Leaf and Sims were 2013 All-ACC first team selections, while Mourning was a 2013 All-ACC second team honoree.
Also returning for Miami are juniors Caitilin Donahoe and Misty Ma’a and sophomore Kelsie Groot. The trio is expected to make an impact for Miami as they look to return to the NCAA Tournament in 2014.
Eight newcomers have joined the Hurricanes for the 2014 season. Kyrena Dudley, Sylvia Hernandez, Michele Marenus, Brooke McDermott, Taylor Scott, Sakile Simmons, Haley Templeton and Kalysta White make up the 2014 Miami volleyball incoming class.
The 2014 season will be the second under the direction of head coach Jose “Keno” Gandara. A year ago, Gandara guided the Canes to a 19-12 (12-8 ACC) record that included a victory over No. 12 North Carolina on Nov. 3. Miami reached the NCAA tournament for the sixth time in program history, facing the Oregon Ducks in the first round on Dec. 6, 2013.
The Hurricanes are currently in training camp for the 2014 season. Miami will play in an Orange and Green Scrimmage on August 22 at 7 p.m., before hosting their first official match of the 2014 season on August 29 as part of the Hurricane Invitational.
