Canes Announce 2014 Cross Country Schedule
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country program released its 2014 schedule Tuesday.
The Canes will run in five races in preparation for the ACC Championships in late October.
“We are excited to unveil this season’s schedule,” Miami distance coach Damon Griffiths said. “We feel that it will provide early challenges we need to prepare for the championship part of the season.”
Miami opens their season at the FAU Collegiate Invitational on Aug. 29, before traveling to Tampa, Fla., to compete in the USF Invitational on Sept. 5.
The Hurricanes will also run in the UF Mountain Dew Invitational (Sept. 20), Paul Short Run (Oct. 4) and the Westminster Academy Invitational (Oct. 25) before heading to Earlysville, Va., to compete in the 2014 ACC Championships on Oct. 31.
NCAA Regional Championships are slated for Nov. 14 in Tallahassee, Fla., with the NCAA Championships taking place a week later in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22.
The men’s team has six returners led by seniors JaCee Jarnagin and Douglas Dourado. Jarnagin ran the seventh-best men’s 10K time in Miami history at the 2013 NCAA South Regional, finishing the race in 32:10.59. Dourado, who recorded a time of 26:39.34 at the Disney Cross Country Classic 8K last year, was one of eight Canes to compete at the 2013 ACC Championships.
Miami’s women’s team features 10 runners with previous collegiate experience. Senior Ally Finical, who registered a time of 24:24.1 at the Charlotte Invitational 6k last year, is expected to provide veteran leadership. Sophomore Gabrielle Hesslau is another runner to watch this coming season after she posted a season-best time of 25:28.06 at the UF Mountain Dew Invitational 6K and represented the Hurricanes at the ACC Championships.
