The #MusicMonday series has featured some of our favorite pre-game songs, as well as some of the Canes’ top pre-game tracks.
Center Shane McDermott and quarterback Stephen Morris have submitted their top pre-game songs and each player has his own unique taste in music.
This week, Miami running back Duke Johnson adds his pre-game music to the ultimate Canes playlist. A freshman All-American, Johnson recently was named to the watch lists for the Maxwell and Hornung awards.
The Miami native became a standout on the field and a fan favorite in his first season donning orange and green. This week Johnson gives the fans some insight into what he does to get ready for a big game.
“In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins
“This is a song I’ve been listening to since high school. Growing up, I always thought of the Canes when I heard this song and it helps me get excited for a game because I know this song is connected to Miami football history.”
“If Tomorrow Never Comes” by Lyfe Jennings
“I listen to this song because it gets me in the mindset to leave it all on the field.”
Beyond pre-game music, Johnson also enjoys some listening to comedy before a game to help release any tension he may be feeling.
“I listen to comedy routines to laugh and get some of the jitter bugs out my system. It helps keep me calm because I can get headaches if I’m overanxious.”
Want a chance to submit songs for our 2013 football and basketball playlists? Every Monday, we will post a different playlist on Spotify, giving fans the opportunity to share with friends or add their own songs to the list.
Throughout the summer, different Miami student-athletes will submit some of their favorite songs to listen to before a game. There will also be fan submissions as we compile the ultimate Canes football playlist
