Rowing Adds Tayler to 2013 Class

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami head rowing coach Andrew Carter has announced the signing of Catherine Tayler to a National Letter of Intent and Aid Agreement.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Catherine to the Miami family,” Carter said. “She will be part of an outstanding class and we’re all looking forward to their arrival.”

Tayler, a native of South Africa, just completed her final year of school at the St. Andrews School for Girls in Bedfordview, South Africa. Prior to signing with the Canes, Tayler competed as part of the crew that set a South African U15 Record for the coxed quad, won a gold medal in the Junior Women’s U19 Scull Race at the Gauteng Schools Rowing Championship, received multiple National Junior Colours awards and represented South Africa at the World Junior Rowing Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Tayler also recently worked as an assistant rowing coach at John’s College in the boys U14 age group.

“Catherine has a terrific background in South Africa,” Carter said. “She’s not only represented her school with impressive results, but has been selected to represent her country at the Junior World Championships each of the past two years. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know Catherine during the recruiting process and I think the personality she has shown during that time has been as important a factor as any. I think she’s a great fit for our team.”

Tayler becomes the sixth signee to join Miami’s 2013 recruiting class, joining Lydia Barber, Frida Carlsson, Alex Gunner, Jaimie Snelgrove, and Joanna Unsworth.
