Horvath, Hayton Named All-Region Rowers
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami rowers Katalin Horvath and Breanna Hayton were named to the CRCA South All-Region Teams Tuesday.
Horvath, a senior, was among 13 members of the South All-Region First Team. Hayton, a junior, was one of nine student-athletes selected to the South All-Region Second Team. She was also named a National Scholar-Athlete by the CRCA on Tuesday. Horvath and Hayton are two of the most decorated rowers in Miami history.
“Kata and Breanna have played a leadership role during a period of impressive progress for our program,” Miami head rowing coach Andrew Carter said. “To have two members of our squad named to the All-South Region Team is exciting and these two women are certainly deserving of the recognition. What makes them that much more special is that they’d be the first to remind you that receiving this sort of award is only possible when you’re part of a great team. They and their teammates have done an incredible job representing the U this year and I think this a testament to that.”
The All-Region selection adds to Horvath’s impressive list of accomplishments. She was named First Team All-ACC for the third consecutive time following the 2012-13 season. Horvath has spent the past four years rowing for the Miami Varsity. Although a decorated small-boat and sculling athlete, Horvath has been racing in the Varsity 8+ at Miami since her freshman year. Horvath strokes the V8+ and has filled that role since fall of 2012.
Hayton earned All-Region honors in the same year that she was named First Team All-ACC. It was her second consecutive year among the conference’s best rowers. A native of Victoria, B.C., Canada, Hayton is a key member of Miami’s top crew and has rowed with the varsity since arriving at Miami as a freshman for the 2010-11 season. She helped the Canes reach the podium at the 2013 San Diego Crew Classic and was instrumental in Miami’s success at the 2013 ACC Rowing Championships.
