Rowing Appears in NCAA Regional Rankings
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami rowing program appeared in the latest edition of the NCAA Regional Rankings, released Wednesday.
Miami was ranked sixth in the South Region. Fellow ACC schools Virginia, Clemson and Duke were also ranked in the region, along with Louisville and Oklahoma. The Hurricanes also received two votes in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll.
“It’s encouraging to see Miami’s name in any ranking, be it the NCAA Regional or the CRCA/USRowing National poll,” Miami head rowing coach Andrew Carter said. “It’s validation of the excellent effort that our student-athletes are making and it gives our program confidence in the path we’re on. We find ourselves in outstanding company on these lists and it certainly provides a form of motivation to continue to improve.”
While the Canes were ranked sixth as a program, their top varsity crew ranked fifth in the region, behind Virginia, Louisville, Clemson and Duke. Miami’s 1V8 won the Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic in early April.
The Canes’ 2V8 also cracked the regional rankings, earning the sixth slot behind Virginia, Oklahoma, Clemson, Louisville and Tennessee.
Carter is happy to see his program earn some recognition in the region, but says the Canes are not worried about the polls.
“We’re just keeping our heads down and on our process,” Carter said. “Any positive outcomes we experience are a result of that daily focus.”
The Canes will host their final home regatta of the season this weekend. Old Dominion, UCF and SMU will travel to the Ronald W. Shane Watersports Center for two days of racing beginning on April 27.
