Rowing Gets Top Seed at San Diego Classic

SAN DIEGO — The University of Miami rowing program completed their first day of competition at the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday.

The 1V had a strong start in Mission Bay, finishing first in their heat of the Cal Cup with a time of 6:36.77. That was the fastest qualifying time for the Cal cup, giving Miami the top seed in Sunday’s A-Final. That race is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. EST.

The 2V placed fifth in their heat for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy with a time of 7:10.12. The 2V was less than three seconds behind Texas and Sacramento State, who placed third and fourth, respectively.

But the 2V improved on their preliminary time, posting a mark of 7:10.72 to place third in the third final for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy.

Sunday is the final day of the San Diego Crew Classic and races are scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m. EST.
