Arrington, Kaczka Lead XC at ACC Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The Universityof Miami cross country teams competed on Saturday at the Atlantic CoastConference Championships at the Virginia Tech Cross Country Course at SmithfieldPlantation. Junior Lindsi Arrington led the women’s team with a time of22:01.4, while senior Greg Kaczka paced the men at 25:39.9.

Asa team, the men placed in 11th and the women in 12th in acompetitive ACC field.

“Bothsides competed hard today,” assistant cross country coach Damon Griffiths said.”Even though we fell short of our goal, I saw the team show improvement throughoutthe season. We have regionals in two weeks and then we can turn our focus totrack season and improving for next year.”

FollowingArrington, who finished in 48th individually, were junior AlaineTate (23:11.2, 81st), junior Taylor Votek (24:22.0, 92nd),senior Allison Ludwick (25:02.4, 95th), junior Brooke Dovell(25:18.8, 96th), sophomore Julia Koch (26:00.0, 97th) andsenior Jennifer Estime (26:27.2, 98th). Florida State’s Violah Lagattook the individual title, as the Seminoles also won the team championship.

Onthe men’s side, Kaczka placed in 68th in his final ACC cross countrymeet as a Cane. Junior Sean Pezzulo (25:56.9, 76th), junior JaCeeJarnigin (26:27.2, 90th), freshman Bert Irigoyen (26:53.3, 94th),junior Luke Fontaine (26:59.1, 96th), freshman Kevin Marsh (27:23.3,100th) and sophomore A.J. Ricketts (27:34.8, 101st) alsorepresented Miami. Host Virginia Tech won the team title, with William Mulerinof the Hokies winning first place.

TheHurricanes will next run at the NCAA Regionals in Tallahassee, Fla., on Nov. 9.
