ACC-Leading Volleyball Enters Top 25
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Currently tied for first placein the Atlantic Coast Conference standings, the University of Miami volleyball teamis ranked No. 24 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association CoachesPoll released Monday. It is the 11th time in program history thatthe Canes have been in the Top 25.
TheHurricanes climbed as high as No. 20 twice last season and last appeared in thepoll at No. 25 on Nov. 21, 2011. The program, which restarted for the 2001season, first earned a ranking (No. 24) on Dec. 9, 2002, on the way to a Sweet16 berth, finishing the year at No. 23.
Miami(16-3, 8-1 ACC), which has received votes in every AVCA Coaches Poll thisseason, has won its last six matches and 11 of the last 13. Most recently, theteam defeated Maryland and Boston College on the road this past weekend. The Caneslead the ACC in opponent hitting percentage (.158), assists (13.34/set), blocks(2.91/set) and digs (16.93/set), while sitting second in kills (14.31/set).
FloridaState, a team Miami defeated 3-1 at the Knight Sports Complex on Sept. 7, isthe only other ACC team in the rankings at No. 12. North Carolina and NC Stateare also receiving votes.
UM,also at No. 20 in the updated NCAA RPI, will return to the road this weekend toface Clemson (ESPN3) on Friday and Georgia Tech (Fox Sports Net) on Sunday in apair of ACC matches.
