Rowing Tests Waters in Fall Opener
MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – The University of Miami rowingteam hosted their first fall event against local schools Barry and NovaSoutheastern on Saturday. The Hurricanes fielded crews in all three events and rowedaway with wins in two of them.
TheVarsity Women’s 8+ had a solid first test, finishing 16 seconds ahead of Barryand 55 ahead of Nova on the 4300m course. Testing a new lineup, the Varsity 4+finished just over a minute and a half in front of their closest challenger.
“Itwas a terrific morning for the event and I think our crews not only went awaywith some good impressions of their first race effort but also with a goodsense that there is room to improve,” head coach Andrew Carter said. “In all, Iwas quite pleased with the outcomes when I consider where we are in ourpreparations this year.”
TheCanes will next scrimmage at home on October 27 before they travel toChattanooga, Tenn., for the Head of the Hooch Regatta on Nov. 3-4.
