XC Competes at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The University of Miami cross country teams competed in thePaul Short Run on Friday at Lehigh University. Juniors Sean Pezzulo and LindsiArrington led the way for the Canes continuing their impressive seasons. Therewas fierce competition, as over 100 schools competed in the meet in a series ofraces.

“We had several personal best marks onboth teams today,” assistant cross country coach Damon Griffith said. “We stillhave to continue to show progress to reach our goals for the end of theseason.”

Pezzulo led the way for Canesfinishing the race with an overall time of 25:07 in the 8k. Following Pezzulowere strong finishes by senior Greg Kaczka (26:16), sophomore Jacee Jarnigan(26:20), junior Luke Fontaine (26:48), freshman Bert Irigoyen (26:57), freshmanKevin Marsh (27:06) and sophomore Anthony Ricketts (27:36).

“Sean ran a very strong race,”Griffith said. “He has continued to improve each week.”

Continuing her strong season, Arringtonpaced the women in the 5k with a time of 21:49. Junior Alaine Tate had a strongfinish for the Hurricanes as well, finishing the race in 23:56. FollowingArrington and Tate were junior Brooke DovellĀ (24:23), junior Allison Ludwick (25:02), sophomore Julia Koch (25:34),freshman Kelly Williamson (25:40) and freshman Ally Fincal (26:52).

“Lindsi had another solid performancetoday,” Griffiths added.

The Hurricanes men’s team finished 34thoverall and the women’s 38th. They will look to improve upon their season asthey head to Orlando, Fla., on Oct. 12 to compete in the UCF Black & GoldInvitational.
