Remmert Named Director of Alumni Programs
CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami hasnamed Rick Remmert to the position of Director of Alumni Programs, as announcedTuesday by Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development & TicketOperations Blake James.
“I am thrilled to have someone with Rick’s experience andhistorical perspective joining our team,” James said.
Remmert officially returns to the UM Athletics Department after having previously spent nine years as the University’s Assistant Athletic Director forMarketing and Promotions from 1978-87.
“What a thrill it is to be rejoining the University of Miamifamily. There truly is no place like home,” Remmert said. “I believe in theUniversity of Miami, in athletic director Shawn Eichorst’s vision for MiamiAthletics, and that our athlete alumni can be and are our greatest ambassadors.”
Considered college baseball’s first full-time marketingdirector, the UM graduate was initially hired by legendary coach RonFraser to lead the team’s marketing efforts. Under the watch of both Fraser and Remmert, the program would set national collegebaseball records for season tickets sold, attendance and revenue, and led thenation in those categories for seven consecutive years (1981-87).
Since leaving his official capacity at UM, Remmert has worked withthe Women’s International Tennis Association, Colorado State UniversityAthletics, the Miami Seaquarium and Nova Southeastern University inadministrative roles ranging from marketing to development. After creating anddirecting successful 25-year reunions for the Miami Hurricanes’ 1982 and 1985 National Championbaseball teams, Remmert returns as Director of Alumni Programs.
In addition to his professional experience in variousfields, Remmert has also served as a lecturer at UM and Saint Thomas Universityfor courses in both sport marketing and business. An accomplished and publishedwriter, Remmert earned his bachelors of arts in communications – journalism from UM in1977.
“He will be a tremendous asset to our department and I amconfident that we will see great things under his direction,” James added.
