Canes in Professional Basketball

The University of Miami men’s basketball team has numerous players in professional leagues across the world. See below for a quick update of their current status. 
Brian Asbury Brian Asbury, a member of Miami’s 2005 to 2009 basketball teams, is currently a small forward for the Israeli Elitzur Netanya. Last season he played in all 24 games where he averaged an impressive 18 points, 7.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game. During his senior season at the University of Miami he averaged 8 points, 5 rebounds, and 0.9 steals.
Guillermo DiazA former UM guard, Diaz (2003-05) played for the Capitanes de Arecibo of the Puerto Rico –BSN League this past season, where he averaged 9.5 ppg, 3.0 rpg, and 3.3. apg. The Capitanes de Arecibo finished second in the BSN Stage Two standings. While at UM, Diaz was named to the ALL-ACC Second Team as both a junior and sophomore.
Malcolm GrantGrant, a recent UM grad (2009-12), signed on with the Cytavision APEOL Nicosia Basketball Team located in Cyprus for the 2012-13 season. In final season Miami, Grant averaged 10.8 ppg, 2.1 rpg, and 1.9 apg. Over his three year career at Miami, Grant made at least one three pointer in 35 consecutive games tying Jack McClinton for the Miami school record, played in over 100 games, and is one of 33 players to score over 1,000 points in their Miami career.
Gary HamiltonThe former Hurricanes forward/center Gary Hamilton, is currently playing for the Japanese team Fukuoka Rizing. The Fukuoka Rizing finished their season with a 33-19 record. Hamilton played in all 52 games where he averaged 9.7 points and 11.4 rebounds. For the 2011-2012 season, he received All-Japanese BJ League Honorable Mention. In his senior season at the University of Miami he averaged 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 0.7 blocks.  
Anthony HarrisHarris, former UM guard for the 2003-07 seasons, played for the Bakersfield Jam of the National Basketball Association Development League (NBDL) where they finished third overall in the Western Conference this season . While playing for the Jam he averaged 11.3 ppg, 3 rpg, 4.8 apg, and 1 spg. In his senior year at The U, Harris averaged 10.2 ppg and 3.4 apg. 
Robert HiteRobert Hite, a guard for the Miami’s 2002-2006 teams, is currently playing basketball for the Italian Biancoblu BO. During the 2012 season he played in 3 games and averaged 5.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. During his senior season at UM, he started all 34 games and averaging 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He ranked second on the team in scoring and rebounding, and led the team in steals. 
Lance HurdleHurdle, a former UM guard (2007-09), played for the Springfield Armor of the National Basketball Association Development League (NBDL) this past season where he averaged 13.1 ppg, 2.6 apg, and 1.4 spg. The Springfield Armor finished first in the Eastern Conference of the Development League. In his team’s three playoff games, he averaged 12.7 ppg and 2.3 apg. During his senior year at UM, Hurdle averaged 7.29 ppg and 2.87 apg.
James JonesJones, a former UM forward (1999-03), plays for the Miami Heat, the 2011-12 NBA Champions. Jones, a three-point specialist and role player, came off the bench averaging 2.6 points over 8.7 minutes during the playoffs. Jones originally was drafted by Indiana, but after two years with the Pacers, the small forward would play for the Phoenix Suns and Portland Trailblazers before eventually signing with the Heat in 2008. In his senior year at UM, Jones started all 28 games averaging 16.9 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 1.8 apg, 1.6 spg, and 1.8 bpg. In each of his four years of playing at Miami, Jones was selected to the Big East All-Academic Team. 
Anthony KingThe former 2005 ACC All-Defensive Team member Anthony King is currently playing in Germany, for the Artland Dragons. In the 36 games he played last season with the Dragons, he averaged 9.9 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks. During the 2012 season his team made it to the EuroChallenge Quarterfinals. King, a duel citizen of United States and Cyprus, was named to the 2012 Cyprus National Team. In the 34 games he played during his season he averaged 7.1points per game, 7.0 rebounds per game, and 1.4 blocks per game.
Jack McClintonThe former University of Miami point guard Jack McClinton, is currently playing in Ukraine for the BC Budivelnyk. Budivelnyk finished the 2012 season with an impressive 30-9 record. The team won the Ukrainian Cup and was in the Ukrainian Superleague Semifinals. McClinton was a three-point shootout finalist in 2012. McClinton played in all 39 games where he averaged 13.6 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game. His 13.6 points per game was the second highest on the team. During his career at UM he averaged 16.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 0.8 steals per game.
Darius RiceFormer UM forward Darius Rice (2000-04) is currently listed on the al Manama (Bahrain) roster for the 2011-12 season.  He last played with the Atleticos de San German of the Puerto Rico – BSN League where he averaged 10.3 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 1.2 bpg. Their 7-3 record was the best in the BSN Stage Two standings. In his senior year at UM, Darius averaged 17.8 ppg, 6.18 rpg, and 1.11 spg. Rice was on the Second Team All-Big East squad as a senior and lead UM in scoring four straight seasons.
John SalmonsSalmons, a former UM guard/forward (1998-02), spent this past season playing for the Sacramento Kings where he averaged 7.5 ppg, 2.9 rpg, and 2.5 apg. From 2007-2011, Salmons averaged 15.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, and 3.0 apg. In 2002, the San Antonio Spurs selected Salmons with the 26th overall pick. In his senior year at UM, Salmons led the team in assists per game (6.2), steals per game (1.8) and overall free-throw percentage (.845).    
Adrian ThomasThomas, a former UM forward (2005-10), is currently on the Miami Heat NBA Summer League team.  Last season he played for the Bakersfield Jam of the National Basketball Association Development League (NBDL) , where he averaged 7.3 ppg and 1.7 rpg. The Jam finished third overall in the Western Conference. In the Jam’s four playoff games, Thomas averaged 4.3 ppg and 1 spg. In his senior year at UM, Thomas averaged 7.3 ppg and 1.39 apg.
Jermaine WalkerWalker, a former UM forward (1996-97), plays for the Guaros de Lara Basketball Club of the Venezuela – LPB League. Over the season he averaged, 9.4 ppg and 3.7 rpg. In his only season at Miami, Walker played in 10 games scoring 21 points while shooting .833 from the line.
