BRATISLAVA, SLOVAKIA – The BIG EAST/Nike Women’s BasketballAll-Stars, under the direction of University of Miami head coach FerneLabati, improved to 2-1 with a 82-72 victory over Slovan Bratislava.
In the closing minutes of the game, Pittsburgh forward AleciaBalich hit the team’s only three-pointer to give the BIG EAST a 78-70 lead.After trailing 13-2 to open the game, the all-stars used a 12-0 run topull ahead.
UM’s Gina Graziani, the starting point guard, added two points and tworebounds in the win. The leading scorer for the BIG EAST team wasreserve Jenea Skeeters of Villanova with 24 points and five rebounds.
To start the European tour, the BIG EAST dropped it’s first game againstthe Austrian National Team 64-55 on May 31, before defeating LokomotivaIstrobanka Bratislava 87-75 on June 1.
Graziani, from Pembroke Pines and Cooper City High School, has netteda total of eight points and seven rebounds on the tour.
The team travels to Prague, Czech Republic for a June 4 meeting withUSK Prague before ending the tour in Karlov Vary, Czech Republic againstKarlov Vary BBC on June 5.
