CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami interim head men’s and women’sswimming coach James Sweeney today announced the hiring of Kristel Tellegenand Christopher W. Plumb as assistant swimming coaches for the remainderof the academic school year.

Tellegen, a six-time Hurricane All-American, earned several individualchampionships and team honors during her four years as a Hurricane swimmer.

She set BIG EAST championship records winning the 200-and 400-individualmedleys. In addition to 200-and 400-medleys, Tellegen also won the200 beastroke at the 1997 BIG EAST Swimming & Diving Championships.

The Miami alumna has served as president of the Miami SwimTeam, Inc., and captain of the Academic All-American varsity swimming anddiving team. She received her degree in International Finance andMarketing from the University of Miami in 1997.

Plumb comes to Miami after serving as head swim coach for BloomingtonHigh School South in Bloomington, IN. A six-time NCAA All-Americanin the 200-and 500- freestyle, and 400-and 800-freestyle relays at IndianaUniversity, Plumb was also an Academic All-BIG 10 selection and IndianaAll-Time Top 10 performer in the 200-, 500-and 1650-freestyle, and 200backstroke. The 23-year-old has held several assistant swimming coachpositions and has a wealth of experience. Plumb received his B.S.in biology from Indiana in 1997.

Seniors Emily Brelsfod, Kyle Gallagher and Frank Lichtenberger,along with junior Julie Kemp, have been named swimming team captains.Men’s and Women’s Tennis Head Coach Jay Berger has added formerHurricane All-American and NCAA Championships qualifier Rachel Violletto the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant coach.

As a senior in 1995, Viollet amassed a 28-5 singles record whileachieving a program-high No. 5 national ranking.
