Distance Medley Relay Team Runs Second-Best Time in UM History

BLACKSBURG, Va.–The University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams had an impressive outing at the Virginia Tech Elite meet. The Canes, feeding off of Friday’s momentum, saw six top-five finishes, including setting a top-two all-time Miami record.
The men’s distance-medley relay team of Connor Adams, Austin Rector, Brian Laskowski and Luke Fontaine ran the second-fastest time in Miami school history. The team finished in 10:07.70 to place fourth at the Virginia Tech Elite meet.
Senior Tarika Williams had another stellar outing, finishing second in the 200 meters in 23.91.
“Overall I was pleased with my performance,” said Williams. “There is always room for the improvement and I will continue to improve while I prepare for the upcoming ACC Championships.”
The Hurricanes capped the day with six top-5 finishes, including the men’s distance-medley relay team and Williams. Freshman Shannon Wright clocked a 57.27 in the open section of the 400 meters to place third. The women’s 4×400 relay team of Brittney Clarke, Lindsi Arrington, Jasmyne King and Jennifer Estime finished fifth, crossing the line in 3:55.02. Senior Miranda Wilson threw the weight 18.33m for a season-best mark to place fourth in the event. On the men’s side, the 4×400-meter relay team of Devon Hill, Christian Cook, Laskowski and Rector circled the track in 3:19.28 for a fourth-place finish.
The Canes are back in action next week, Feb. 9-10 at the Iowa State Invitational in Ames, Iowa and on Feb. 10 at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
