Canes Finish Play at Marry Fossum Invitational
Sept. 19, 2011
EAST LANSING, Mich. – Freshman Rika Park shot a one-over par to lead the University of Miami women’s golf team in the final round on Sunday. The Canes concluded competition in the Mary Fossum Invitational hosted by Michigan State at Forest Akers West Golf Course.
In their second tournament of the year, the Canes shot a 318 on the day and a three round score of 925. That was good for fifth place on the tournament.
Despite the fifth place finish, the Canes felt they could’ve performed much better.
“Today didn’t go how we wanted,” said UM head women’s golf coach Patti Rizzo. “Rika played great but it was very difficult today.”
Michigan State took home the tournament win for the seventh time in the last nine years, shooting a 28-over par 892. Ohio State (907), Michigan (910), Kent State (917) and Miami (925) rounded out the top five.
Park shot a one-over par 73 on the day and a six-over par for the tournament. Park had two birdies on the day and her three day score was good enough to get her a third place finish.
Freshman Leticia Ras-Anderica shot a five-over par 77 on the day and a nine-over par for the tournament. She shot an even-par 36 on the back nine Sunday and her three round score earned her a tie for a sixth place finish.
Senior Jennifer Hirano shot an 11-over par on the day, and a two-over 38 on the front nine.
Freshman Shannon Pak shot a 13-over par on the day and Senior Patricia Arana shot a 16-over par.
The Canes will pick up play on September 30 as they compete in the Bettie Lou Evans Fall Invitational.
