Lane Carico Named ACC Volleyball Player of the Week

Sept. 5, 2011

Greensboro, N.C. – University of Miami senior outside hitter Lane Carico has been selected as this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Player of the Week announced Monday afternoon.

A native of Manhattan Beach, Calif., Carico helped lead the Hurricanes to a 3-0 record over the weekend and the tournament title in the Pepperdine Asics Classic in Malibu, Calif. In helping the Hurricanes remain unbeaten on the year at 6-0, Carico averaged 3.10 kills and 5.00 digs in her return to her home state.

In Miami’s 3-1 title match victory over the host Pepperdine Waves, Carico – a 2010 AVCA Third Team All-American – tallied 13 kills and 20 digs en route to being named tournament MVP.

On the year, Carico owns three double-doubles and ranks third on the team with 53 kills (2.52 k/s). She is second on the squad in digs (88) and fourth in blocks (11). In her chase to become the school’s all-time leader in kills, Carico needs just 86 more to pass Karla Johnson (2002-05) atop the school’s leaderboard.

The University of Miami will return to the hardwood Thursday, Sept. 8 when hosting Florida A&M as part of the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla. The event will run through Saturday, Sept. 10 and take place inside the James L. Knight Sports Complex.

The University of Miami is excited to announce a new season ticket package that will include two (2) adult and three (3) youth tickets to all home volleyball and soccer events in the 2011 season.
