Hurricanes Compete at Oak Ridge Invitational on Sunday

Coral Gables, Fla.–The Miami Hurricanes rowing team heads to Oak Ridge, Tenn., on Sunday (May 15) to compete at the Oak Ridge Invitational to close out the 2011 season. Races on Melton Lake begin at 9 a.m.
Along with Miami, nine other schools are competing—No. 11 Clemson, Duke, Louisville, No. 20 Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tulsa and UCF and No. 5 Virginia.
“We will have very tough competition this weekend,” said head coach Andrew Carter. “The toughest we’ve faced, top to bottom. It’s a pretty sure bet that there will be more than one of these programs heading to the NCAA Championships after this regatta so it will a strong test for our young squad.”
Heats will take place in the following events: Open Four (9 a.m.), Varsity Four (9:20 a.m.), Second Varsity Eight (9:40 a.m.) and Varsity Eight (10 a.m.) with the top three boats from each heat advancing to the grand final and places fourth through sixth going to the petite final. A Third Varsity Eight (final only) race will take place at 12:30 p.m., before the finals begin at 12:40 p.m.
Miami was last in action on April 30 at UCF, the Novice 8+ took top honors in its competition. UM’s V8+ and V4+ both finished second in their respective races.
