Feb. 17, 2011

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams have been named 2010 Division I All-Academic Teams by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The men’s team earned an overall GPA of 3.57 and was one of 152 teams nationwide to earn the distinction as a result of a team GPA of 3.0 or better.

The women’s team was also honored as it compiled a GPA of 3.44, one of 10 ACC schools to be recognized.

Villanova was selected as the USTFCCCA Cross Country Women’s Scholar Team of the Year, while Florida State claimed the men’s team of the year.

Scholar teams of the year are determined from among those who earned All-Academic status and placed highest as a team at the most recent NCAA Championships.

The 2010 season was one of the best for the cross country program as freshmen Brooke Dovell and Connor Adams led their squads. Dovell won two individual titles and Adams claimed an individual title as well. Both runners finished each race they competed in as their team’s top performer.
