” Brooke cracked the 22-minute mark along with seniors Katharine [Woodard] and Caitlin [Knapp] running big personal-bests for their final collegiate cross country race for the U,” said assistant cross country coach Damon Griffiths. “We made great strides this year as a team and I know they’re going to have a huge track season.”

In her final race, senior Katharine Woodard ran the fourth-best time in school history at 22:20.96. Fellow senior Caitlin Knapp finished the 6K course in 22:50.08 – the seventh-best outcome in program history.

The men’s squad was led by sophomore Greg Kaczka, who ran the 10K course in 32:11.32 – the fifth-best time in school history. Senior Charles Michel, in his final collegiate race.

“Greg ran an amazing race today,” said Griffiths. “He looked strong the entire race. It was a great way to conclude the cross country season.”

Rounding out the Top 5 were Phil Wood, Michael Coogan and Luke Fontaine.

“It was a tough transition for the freshmen to the 10K distance, but I feel they ran well,” concluded Griffiths. “They will take this into their training going into the indoor and outdoor seasons. We would have liked to finish higher on the men’s side, but this young group has improved all season long, so I’m satisfied with today’s effort.”

The Hurricanes will be back in action for the start of the indoor track season when they travel to Clemson, S.C. on Jan 14.
