Oct. 29, 2010

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami cross country team will travel to the Boston area to compete in the ACC Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Franklin Park in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

For the first time this season, the women will be running on a 6K course beginning at 10 a.m., while the men will tackle the 8K race at 11 a.m.

In last week’s Miami Elite Invitational, Hurricane freshmen Brooke Dovell and Connor Adams each led their squads to team titles with individual victories of their own.

Dovell and Lindsi Arrington will be joined this weekend by three seniors that will be competing in their final ACC Championship in Caitlin Knapp, Emma Steppe and Katharine Woodard. Junior Anna Bona and freshmen Cristina Brea and Allison Ludwick will also compete for the `Canes.

For the men, Charles Michel will be the lone upperclassmen competing as the young squad will feature five freshmen including Adams, Michael Coogan, Luke Fontaine, Sean Pezzulo and Phil Wood. Sophomore Greg Kaczka – who has been Miami’s No. 2 most of the season – will look to help set the pace for Miami.

The women’s race will feature six schools ranked in the top 30 of the USTFCCCA poll. Florida State enters the championship as the highest ranked ACC team at No. 3 nationally. The Seminoles are followed by Duke 12th, North Carolina 17th, Virginia 24th, Boston College 25th and NC State 28th. The ACC leads all conferences with six teams ranked in the top 30.
