Hurricanes Claim Miami Elite Invitational Crowns

MIAMI –

The University of Miami cross country team claimed a clean sweep at the Miami Elite Invitational at Larry and Penny Thompson Park on Friday.

Freshmen Connor Adams and Brooke Dovell each claimed individual crowns for the men’s and women’s teams as each squad also earned team titles.

For the second time this season, Dovell won an individual title crossing the 5K finish line in 18:36.95 –  Fellow freshman Lindsi Arrington placed second in 18:47.21.

In their final home meet, seniors Katharine Woodard (19:21.66), Caitlin Knapp (19:47.31) and Emma Steppe (20:02.67) finished fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

As a group, the women scored 21 points in their third team victory of the season.

Adams, like Dovell claimed his team’s top time, crossing the finish line in 15:45.87. Sophomore Greg Kaczka was right behind him at 15:48.82. Finishing in third place was the men’s lone senior Charles Michel (16:17.54).

Freshmen Luke Fontaine (16:20.28) and Phil Wood (16:42.05)rounded out the Top 5 for the `Canes.

The team title was the second of the season for the men’s as they totaled 17 points.

The Hurricanes will next compete in the ACC Championships which will be held in Boston on Oct. 30.
