Aug. 24, 2010
CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami cross country 2010 schedule was announced Wednesday by Amy Deem, Miami’s Director of Cross Country and Track and Field. The Hurricanes will have their season-opener taking place in Davie, Fla. on Sunday, Sept. 5.
“We are excited about our 2010 cross country schedule,” said Deem. “This year’s schedule will provide us some early season challenges that will help prepare us for the heart of the schedule, which is the ACC Championships and NCAA South Regional.”
Miami returns six of their top seven women from last season, lead by senior Katharine Woodard, the team’s top finisher from the 2009 ACC Championships. The men’s team will feature several newcomers led by Texas state 1,600-meter champion Connor Adams, as well as senior Charles Michel, the top finisher from each contest last season.
The Hurricanes will kick off the 2010 campaign at the King of the Hill Challenge at Vista View Park in Davie, Fla. and it will be the first of four regular season races to be held in the Sunshine State.
On Saturday, Sept. 18, the ‘Canes will head to Gainesville, Fla. to take part in the University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Invitational.
The lone trip out-of-state takes place two weeks later on Oct. 2, when Miami travels to the University of Louisville’s Greater Louisville Classic, site for the 2011 NCAA National Cross Country Championships.
The Hurricanes return to Florida for their final two regular season races as they will visit DeLand, Fla. on Friday, Oct. 15 for the Stetson Hatter Invitational.
Traditionally, UM would open the season with a home event, but this year, they will close out the schedule with the Miami Elite Invitational. The race will be held at Larry and Penny Thompson Park on Friday, Oct. 22.
The following Saturday, Oct. 30, the ‘Canes will travel to the Northeast to participate in the ACC Championships. This year the event will be held at Franklin Park in Boston, Mass. and will be hosted by Boston College.
Like last year, the cross country squads aim to race in the NCAA South Region Championships, this year’s competition will be hosted by Samford University in Birmingham, Ala. on Saturday, Nov. 13.
