June 3, 2010
NEW ORLEANS – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams were each named by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association as Division I Cross Country All-Academic Teams.
For a team to be considered for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award, they must competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship and also have a minimum 3.00 team cumulative GPA.
The women’s team carried a 3.65 team GPA, with the men’s squad posting a 3.54 GPA.
In the NCAA Regional Championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala. in November, the men posted a score of 716 with the women placing 20th with score of 543.
Last October at the FGCU Cross Country Invitational in Naples, Fla., both teams enjoyed their season-best results. The men placed second, with the women earning an overall team victory.
The award for each team represents the first time that Miami cross country has been recognized by the USTFCCCA for their academic success.
