Miami Track and Field Head to Penn Relays

CORAL GABLES – A total of 16 student-athletes will represent the University of Miami men’s and women’s track teams at the historic Penn Relays. The event held at Franklin Field is on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and will take place Thursday-Saturday, April 22-24.
The Penn Relays is the nation’s oldest and most prestigious track and field relay event. Beginning in 1922 with the renovation of Franklin Field, the Penn Relays has hosted high schools and college track and field programs as well as amateur and professional athletes. This year there are over 1,200 schools that will be attending in front of a three-day audience that is expected to be over 100,000 strong.
The 15th-ranked women will open the meet Thursday at 10 a.m. as sophomore Meghan Novinger competes in the high jump and the duo of Tameka Jameson races in the 400-meter hurdles.
Tameka is fresh off an ACC Championship in the 400m dash and will look to carry over her success into this weekend. The junior is also scheduled to compete in the 4×400 and the shuttle hurdle relays.
Novinger earned All-ACC honors for her performance last weekend in Clemson, S.C. The Miami native has a season-best mark of 1.80m (5-10.75) and currently sits in second place in school history in the high jump.
Another Miami jumper coming off an All-ACC weekend will be competing on Thursday. Senior Deandra Doyley earned all-conference honors in both the long and triple jumps and she will be joined by Brittni Finch in the College Women’s Long Jump Championship at noon. Both Doyley and Finch will be participating in the triple jump on Friday.
The women’s 4×100 and 4×400 relays will race at 1:05 p.m. and 6:05 p.m. respectively on Thursday with the men’s competing on Friday at 12:35 p.m. and 4:40 p.m.
The 4×100 and 4×400 relays have a preliminary heat, with the eight best times advancing to the Championship Final and the next best eight times moving on to the College Final.
The men and the women each will have a team in the College Sprint Medley Championship of America on Friday, with the women set to start at 6:30 p.m. and the men at 6:55 p.m.
The women will also participate in the 4×200 and the College Women’s Shuttle Hurdle Championships of America at 2:10 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
Tarika Williams will run in the College Women’s 100m dash, Friday at 3:30 p.m. and All-ACC performer Ti’erra Brown will compete in the College Women’s 100m hurdles at 3:50 p.m.
ACC Champion Cory Nelms isscheduled to compete in the College Men’s 110m Hurdles on Friday as well.
