Hurricanes Send Four to Virginia Tech Final Qualifier

CORAL GABLES – Cory Nelms, Brittni Finch, Tameka Jameson and Takecia Jameson will travel to Blacksburg, Va. to participate in the Virginia Tech Qualifier on Saturday, March 6 at the Rector Fieldhouse.

The meet will be the last opportunity for student-athletes to qualify or improve on their NCAA qualifying marks in hopes of a higher seeding at the NCAA Indoor Championships – to be held in Fayetteville, Ark. next weekend.

Cory Nelms, currently ranked 21st in the nation in the 60m hurdles will attempt to improve on his season-best time of 7.85 seconds. Last weekend, the senior earned a fifth place finish in the ACC Championships. He is scheduled to race in the preliminary round at 12:10 p.m.

Takecia Jameson will be racing in both the 60m hurdles and the 200m dash. She currently holds Nos. 48 and 34 rankings in those events respectively and will be looking to move up this weekend. At the ACC Championships, Takecia earned All-ACC honors with a third place finish in the 200m, she also scored in the hurdles, placing eighth. The preliminary round of the hurdles is set to start at 12 p.m. with the 200m dash slotted at 2:40 p.m.

Takecia’s sister, Tameka Jameson reached a provisional time of 54.41 seconds in the 400m dash with a fourth place finish at the conference championships last Saturday. The junior seeks an improvement and is slated to race at 1:35 p.m.

Rounding out the quartet of student-athletes is Britni Finch. The sophomore leapt a season-best 6.30m (20-08.00) in the ACC Championships, finishing fifth. Her event is scheduled to get underway at 12 p.m. on Saturday and the Dallas native looks to move up the national rankings where she is currently rated No. 19.
