CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami’s Charles Michel has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Cross Country Performer of the Week for his performance at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic in Orlando over the weekend.
Michel, a junior from Woodinville, Wash., has paced the Hurricanes in each of their four races this season. At the Disney Classic, Michel placed 18th out of 205 competitors in a time of 26:58.00 on the 8K course. As a team, Miami raced to a 10th place finish out of a total of 25.
“It is a huge accomplishment for Charlie to be recognized as the athlete of the week,” said assistant cross country coach Damon Griffiths. “His dedication and work ethic this summer has allowed him to make major strides this season.”
With the honor, Michel is the first Hurricane men’s cross country runner to win the ACC Performer of the Week award since UM joined the conference in 2004.
Michel and the Hurricanes will have an off week before returning to action at The Gulf Coast Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 24 in Naples, Fla.
