Miami Cross Country Travels to Tar Heel State

CORAL GABLES – The University of Miami cross country teams will participate Great American Cross Country Festival in Cary, N.C. tomorrow at the Wake Med Complex. The women will be the first to race at 3:30 p.m. with the men to follow at 3:55 p.m.
The women’s team has been led this season by Janet Price. The sophomore has been the Hurricanes top finisher in both the Greentree and Mountain Dew Invitationals with her season-best time on a 5k course coming in the season-opener at 19:46.56.
Finishing behind Price in both events this season has been fellow sophomore Anna Bona who finished only a second behind Price at the Greentree Invitational. Also running for the `Canes will be juniors Emma Steppe, Jackie Sullivan, Caitlin Knapp and Katharine Woodard; along with sophomores Monika Freiser and Casey Crist.
On the men’s side, Charles Michel has been the top runner so far this season. The junior has led Miami on both a 5k and 8k course this season, with senior Julio Bonilla finishing second in each event. Sophomores Austin Rector and Matthew Wilson will compete as well, with freshman Damon Campbell and Greg Kaczka.
The Great American Cross Country Festival will feature 33 women’s teams and 32 for the men. The festival returns to the Wake Med Complex after being held in Hoover, Ala. the past three years.
