Hurricanes Head to Orlando for UCF Twilight

CORAL GABLES – A small contingent of the men’s and women’s track and field teams will represent the University of Miami when they travel to Orlando on Sunday, May 10 to participate in the UCF Twilight meet at the UCF Track and Field Complex.
Eight other collegiate women’s teams will join Miami in making up the field while seven men’s college teams also will compete in the event. In addition, there will be numerous professional runners with experience competing in national and Olympic meets.
The lone representative for the men’s squad will be freshman Devon Hill, who will be looking to shave three-hundredths of a second of his season-best time in the 110-meter hurdles. The Trenton, N.J. native raced to a finish of 14.33 seconds in the preliminary heat of the ACC Championships in March and the regional qualifying mark stands at 14.30 seconds.
For the 16th-ranked women, Takecia and Tameka Jameson will lead a group of seven student-athletes on Sunday. Takecia will be looking to improve on her regional qualifying time of 1:00.27 in the 400-meter hurdles while Tameka will race in the 200-meter dash.
Joining Tameka in the 200 will be fellow sophomore Tara Thomas, who will also take part in the 100-meter dash. Thomas will look to join Murielle Ahoure and Kristy Whyte as regional qualifiers in both events.
Middle distance runners Ena Leufroy and Janet Price will take part in the 800-meter run, an event that is scheduled to begin at 5:40 p.m.
Junior Christina Madry will compete in the long jump at 1 p.m. and sophomore Megan Novinger will be in the high jump at 2 p.m.
Next weekend, May 15-16, the Hurricanes will participate in the Georgia Tech Invitational. It will be the last scheduled event of the regular season for the teams before the NCAA Regional Championships, to be held in Greensboro, N.C., May 29-30.
