Jan. 20, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Miami `s Murielle Ahoure has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Indoor Track and Field Co-Performer of the Week for her performance at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky. on Saturday, Jan. 17.
Ahoure, a senior transfer, broke Lauryn Williams’ 60-meter dash record with a first-place time of 7.17. The performance guaranteed her a spot in the NCAA Indoor National Championships in College Station, Texas, March 13-14.
The weekly conference award is the first for a Hurricane since Krista Simkins was honored on Feb. 19 of last year.
Sharing the award with Ahoure was Florida State’s Kim Williams who set the FSU record with a mark of 14.03m in the triple jump.
Ahoure’s time of 7.17 would have been good for an ACC Championship a season ago.
An All-American at George Mason, Ahoure also was named her conference’s performer of the year after winning both the 100 and 200-meters during the 2007 outdoor season.
