Dec. 10, 2008

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami Coordinator of Video Stewart Cramer and University of Miami MBA candidate Michael O’Leary won a Suncoast Regional Emmy Award for the athletic department produced commercial “Mosaic” at the 2008 Suncoast Emmy Awards.

Nominated for the 2008 Advanced Media Emmy’s “Outstanding Commercial”, “Mosaic” was created to highlight the Hurricanes’ Olympic sports in a 30-second commercial. UM tennis, swimming & diving, track & field, rowing, soccer, volleyball and golf are featured in the spot.

“The coaches and administrators took a chance funding these productions and believing that great work can come from nothing more than passion and enthusiasm,” O’Leary said. “Everyone from the administrators who sponsored the commercial, to the coaches and student-athletes who donated their time to be on camera are all responsible for this honor.”

The Emmy is the first for the Miami athletics department. Cramer is in his 12th year at Miami. O’Leary will finish his MBA in the spring of 2009.

Miami produced videos “Mosaic” and “University of Miami Diving” were nominated in the Advanced Media Program.

O’Leary and Cramer thanked the university and student-athletes at Miami in the acceptance speech.

“Mosaic is a commercial about the University of Miami’s Olympics sports—the sports you don’t get to see on TV,” O’Leary noted in the acceptance speech. “It is with great passion and pride that these student-athletes compete for and represent the U. It has been a privilege to work with them and we’d like to thank all the student-athletes, coaches and administrators for making this possible.”

The donated voices – featuring Ashton Smith- used in the two pieces were thanks in part to UM alum Dean Panaro, who was a three-time All-American in diving in 1991, 1992 and 1993. Panaro is a partner in a voiceover agency in Hollywood, Calif.

The Suncoast Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences hosted the 2008 Suncoast Emmy Awards last Saturday, Dec. 6 at the Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, Fla.
