Sophomore Setter Katie Gallagher Named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week

Coral Gables, FLA (www.hurricanesports.com) — – Sophomore setter Katie Gallagher has been named the Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for the period September 8-14.

For the third time in as many weeks, Gallagher was named to an All-Tournament Team following another Miami sweep in tournament play–Asics/Coca-Cola Invitational (San Francisco, Calif.). On the week, Gallagher collected a team-best hitting percentage of .500 (12 kills / 32 attempts / 3 errors). Gallagher led the charge with a season second-best 45 assists and career-high nine (9) kills against the Dons to keep UM’s undefeated season intact. Gallagher now has 30 or more assists in seven of the ‘Canes first 10 matches of the season. She collected 19 kills from her setter position last week to help the ‘Canes in wins against Villanova, Sacramento State and host San Francisco. The sophomore from the greater Orlando, Florida metro area was just one (1) block shy of tying a career-high in that category against Sacramento State.

Gallagher has been instrumental in helping the Hurricanes to their second-best start in school history at 10-0, and has led them in a 12-match winning streak–also second-best in school history. She was key on defense with 17 digs for Miami this week as well.
