Hurricanes Wrap Up Competition at Furman Invitational

Coral Gables, FLA (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami men’s cross country team raced their way to an eighth-place finish while the UM women’s team placed 11th Saturday at the 35th Annual Furman Invitational held at the Furman University Golf Course.
Pacing the men’s team was Alex Paley, who finished 28th with a time of 27:15.
Following Paley were Ryan Woodlee and Andrew Chuplis, who finished 42nd and 43rd, respectively, with times just over 27:37.
Brandon Calbaro took 54th place with a time of 27:57 while Tim Harris finished 62nd with a time of 28:09.
Also competing was Eric Miller, who finished 74th with a time of 28:28 and Greg Grosicki, who placed 85th with a time of 28:56.
The eight-member UM team combined for 198 points, good for an eighth-place finish.
For the ninth-consecutive competition dating back to 2006, Delia Phlatts finished first for the UM women’s team, placing 25th with a time of 19:18.
Ena Leufroy took 66th with a time of 20:25 followed by Caitlin Knapp’s 69th-place time of 20:28.
Katherine Woodard placed 83rd with a time of 20:44 while Jessica Fern (21:23) took 102nd, Andrea Wood (21:27) took 106th and Anika Arevalo (21:39) took 112th place.
Combined, the UM women’s team earned 289 points to finish 11th.
