Harris and Van Dyke Impress at UCF Invitational

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ORLANDO– The University of Miami men’s track and field team completed competition at the UCF Invitational Saturday at The University of Central Florida’s Track and Soccer Complex.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Freshman DeMarcus Van Dyke was the first collegiate sprinter to cross the line in the 100-meters, with a time of 10.75. Fellow teammate and football player, Bruce Johnson finished with a time of 10.87. Van Dyke was only the second collegiate runner to finish the 200-metes, behind only Nova Southeastern’s Michael Wilson at 21.55.
Four-time All-American Tim Harris took the weekend off from running in the 800-meters, to work on his endurance in the 1,500, winning the event with a time of 4:00.84. Teammate Ryan Woodlee finished second at 4:08.41.
Les Bradley II and Cory Nelms finished second and third, respectively, in the 110-meter hurdles with times of 14.32 and 14.62.
Senior Casey McGinn reached 4.70m in the pole vault for his third-best mark of the season.
The Hurricanes will return to action next week at the site of this year’s ACC Championship, as they participate in the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17. This will be the final opportunity for the student-athletes to either pick up or improve upon NCAA Regional marks, with the South Regional being held in Tallahassee May 30-31.
