Doyley and Talley Win Two Events Apiece at UCF Invite

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>ORLANDO– The No. 12 University of Miami women’s track and field team wrapped up competition at the UCF Invitational at The University of Central Florida’s UCF Track and Soccer Complex, with wins in four different field events.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Deandra Doyley won the triple jump as well as the long jump on Saturday. In the triple jump the sophomore soared to her career-best leap of 12.39m, qualifying her for the NCAA Regionals. With a mark of 5.91 meters, Doyley defeated nine other competitors in the long jump.
Senior Khadija Talley remained impressive, as she won both the discus and the shot put. With throws of 53.62m in the discus and 15.55m in the shot, Talley easily won each event as well as racked up two more regional qualifying marks. Freshman Miranda Wilson finished in fourth place in the discus (42.78) an third in the hammer throw (32.54m).
Freshman Tara Thomas was the only Hurricane representative in the 100-meter dash, running her second-fastest time of the as she was the fourth collegiate runner to cross the line at 11.92.
Sophomore Nene Kamate was the third collegiate runner to finish in the 200-meters at 24.51, her second-best time on the year. Thomas finished just four spots behind Kamate at 25.08.
In her third-fastest time of the season (2:11.61), All-American Ena Leufroy finished second in the 800-meters.
The 4×100-meter relay team of Doyley, Charlene Fuller, Kamate and Thomas ensured the Hurricanes of their seventh NCAA Regional Qualifying time in the event, with a winning time of 45.39.
Junior Viktoria Andonova hit the regional mark of 1.75m in the high jump for the sixth time this season, as she placed second in the event.
Senior Kaitlin Nazario finished second in the javelin with a throw of 41.20m.
The 12th-ranked Hurricanes will return to action next week at the site of this year’s ACC Championship, as they participate in the Georgia Tech Invitational Friday and Saturday, May 16 and 17. This will be the final opportunity for the student-athletes to either pick up or improve upon NCAA Regional marks, with the South Regional being held in Tallahassee May 30-31.
