Miami Completes the Florida Relays as Whyte Rises

<?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>GAINESVILLE, Fla.– The University of Miami women’s track and field team completed the second and final day of the Pepsi Florida Relays on Saturday with sophomore Kristy Whyte taking a huge step in the national rankings in the 200-meters.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Whyte ran the 200-meters, where she set a new personal best time of 23.38. The sophomore moved from No. 9 in the event to No. 3 while improving her NCAA Regional time.
The 1,600 sprint medley relay team of Charlene Fuller, Ena Leufroy, Tameka Jameson and Whyte raced to a 3:57.92 finish, good for fourth place.
Miami’s 4×100 team ran their slowest time of the year, but showed how strong they are by still maintaining a regional qualifying time at 45.38. Members of the team were Fuller, Krista Simkins, Tara Thomas and Whyte.
Discus throwers Khadija Talley and Miranda Wilson finished sixth and eight respectively with marks of 45.00 and 43.18m. Talley registered a throw of 13.70m in the shot put.
Another UM thrower, senior Katilin Nazario took a sixth place in the javelin with a mark of 42.49m.
Sophomore Deandra Doyley leapt 11.66m in the triple jump for a 12th place finish.
The Hurricanes will return to action Saturday, April 12, when they host the Miami Elite Invitational at Cobb Stadium.
