UM Recruit Named to McDonald's All-American Team

CORAL GABLES – <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami women’s basketball signee Shenise Johnson has been named to the seventh annual McDonald’s High School All-America Team. The McDonald’s All-America Game will be played in Milwaukee. Wis. on March 28. <?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>
Last week, Johnson was named to the WBCA All-American Team presented by Nike. This week, she becomes the second incoming freshman to be named to the McDonald’s All-America Team, joining former Hurricane great, Tamara James.
“I want to congratulate Shenise for her hard work, as well as her family and her current coach, Steve Shepanski at Rush-HenriettaHigh School. To be named to two of the most prestigious All-American teams is a huge honor,” said head coach Katie Meier.
The WBCA as well as the McDonald’s All-American selections committees take academic and other off-court accolades into account when choosing candidates. Meier added, “For our program to add such a well-rounded individual, is a compliment to our staff.”
Slam Magazine currently ranks Johnson as the no. 11 prospect in the nation and the best in the northeast. The 5-11 forward out of Henrietta, N.Y. has led her team to a 17-3 record so far this season.
Johnson joins Sylvia Bullock (Anchorage, Alaska), Jazmond Stringer (Miami, Fla.) and Riquna Williams (Pahokee, Fla.) on the Hoopgurlz.com 25th ranked incoming class.
