UM Signee Carico Named Mizuno/Volleyball All-American

Jan. 31, 2008

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami volleyball signee Lane Carico (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) has been named to Volleyball Magazine‘s 2007 Mizuno/Volleyball All-American team, joining 11 other high school players honored for their accomplishments during the 2007 season.

Carico, a 5-11 outside hitter, led Mira Costa High School to a perfect 37-0 record and to the school’s fourth-straight state championship in 2007. As team captain at Mira Costa, Carico was named MVP of the Santa Barbara Tournament of Champions as well as to the Durango Classic All-Tournament Team.

“Lane is certainly deserving of this great honor,” head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “Helping her team to an undefeated season was no small accomplishment. She is a player who always adds to the successes of her team and contributes in so many ways, and we look forward to her bringing more of that to Coral Gables this fall.”

Ranked as the 66th top senior nationally by Prepvolleyball.com, Carico also represented the United States at the Under-19 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships in Poland. As a team captain on her club team TCA, she was named to the 2007 Junior Olympics 17 and under Open Division All-Tournament team.

The honor marks the second consecutive year a UM signee has been named to the Mizuno/Volleyball All-American team. Freshman Katie Gallagher, an ACC All-Freshmen team member in 2007, was one of 12 nationally to be honored in 2006.

Fellow signee Ali Becker joins Carico to give UM another exceptional class after last year’s group was ranked 26th nationally by Prepvolleyball.com.
