Miami is coming off a disappointing loss to the Virginia Cavaliers this past Monday night. The Hurricanes held a 10-point lead at the half but could not stop the Virginia offense in the second half, giving up 53 points on their way to a 79-68 loss.
Freshman point guard Epiphany Woodson scored 11 points in a gutsy performance as she tried to keep her team in the game. Senior Maurita Reid one led her team with 20 points, and for the third straight game senior Carla Williams scored in double-figures, with 10 points.
A Look at FloridaState
Florida State is coming off of two straight ACC wins over Clemson and WakeForest. The Seminoles received votes in this week’s AP Poll, the third straight UM opponent to do so.
Florida State is led offensively by Tanae Davis-Canin who scores 13.7 point per game. Mara Freshour and Jacinta Monroe also average double-figures with 12.1 and 11.4 respectively. Shante Williams leads her team with 36 steals, but also scored 9.6 per contest.
The Series
Miami vs. FloridaState has been one of the biggest rivalries in college athletics. Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, FSU has won the majority of the games played between the two women’s basketball program. Miami has a 7-24 record all-time against the Seminoles. These teams have been playing since 1974, and FloridaState has won four straight including a 75-68 win in Coral Gables last February.
