UM Women's Basketball Opens Season with FAU

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s basketball team opens its regular season at the BankUnited Center Friday at noon.

Miami (0-0) begins the season with a five-game homestand hosting two instate foes right off the bat. The Hurricanes welcome Florida Atlantic for the season opener at the BankUnited Center. Miami won its only exhibition game when it defeated DT3 Miami, 86-57. The Hurricanes return three starters and eight letterwinners. UM welcomes six newcomers. Senior guard Maurita Reid is the team’s leading returner in scoring, rebounding and steals. Reid averaged 14.6 points per game in 2006-07.
Florida Atlantic also is playing its regular season opener. The Owls are led by their one returning starter, guard Shuteamia Brayboy. She led the team in assists last season (5.1 per game). FAU head coach Chancellor Dugan is in her ninth season with the Owls. She has 105-129 career record at FAU.
Miami leads the all-time series with FAU, 14-0. The Hurricanes and Owls last played on Dec. 16, 2002 when UM won 86-61. Miami is 10-0 against FAU in Coral Gables.

Youth Day at the BankUnited Center On Friday, November 9, at 12:00 p.m., the Women’s Basketball team will be hosting Youth Day at the BankUnited Center. The Miami Hurricanes have welcomed area elementary and middle schools to Friday’s game. The University of Miami is providing free transportation to the game as well as free lunch at the game.
