Hurricane Cross Country Opens Season at Mountain Dew Invitational

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams will open the 2007 season Friday traveling to Gainesville, Fla. to take part in the 2007 Mountain Dew Invitational hosted by the University of Florida at the UF Golf Course.

The collegiate division of the 19th running of the Mountain Dew Invitational will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the women’s competition. The men’s competition will begin at approximately 7 p.m.

The UM men’s program has won six-of-its-last-seven season-opening meets and returns a roster that includes seven upperclassmen. Leading the men’s contingent is junior Andrew Chuplis who was UM’s top finisher in two meets a year ago.

On the women’s side, senior DeeDee Phlatts, who was UM’s top finisher in all five meets last year, will pace a Hurricane squad that returns eight student-athletes from last season.
