Sophomore Krista Simkins won the 200-meter championship and earned All-ACC honors in the 100-meters to help lead the <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>University of Miami women’s track and field team to a second-place finish at the 2007 ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the University of Maryland’s Kehoe Track at Ludwig Field.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

Simkins won the ACC Championship title in the 200-meters while setting a new Kehoe Track facility record with a first-place time of 23.08 seconds. Her ACC title came on the heels of a second-place effort in the 100-meters with saw her clock in with a time of 11.60 seconds.

 

She also ran the second leg of the UM 4×100-meter relay team, which also included freshman Kristy Whyte, senior Amy Seward and freshman Ashley Dukes, that placed second with a time of 44.58 and held down the third leg of the Hurricanes’ 4×400-meter relay team, which also consisted of Whyte, senior Ginou Etienne and sophomore Ena Leufroy, that finished second with a time of 3:32.67.

 

After posting the Friday’s fastest preliminary time (52.46) in the 400-meters Etienne finished second in Saturday’s finals with a time of 52.75 seconds.

 

Junior Khadija Talley opened the day for the Hurricanes with a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a mark of 15.82 meters (51-11.00 feet).

 

Collectively, Miami earned a total of 113 points to finish second behind Virginia Tech, who tallied 144.5 points over the three-day event. FloridaState took third place with 101 points.
