Hurricanes Compete at NCAA Qualifying Meets

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Senior Brenda Faluade’s NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 6.45 meters in the long jump highlighted several performances by members of the University of Miami men’s and women’s track and field teams Saturday at NCAA qualifying meets held at Iowa State and Virginia Tech.
Faluade, the 2007 ACC Indoor Field Performer of the Year, finished first in the long jump at the Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech at the Last Chance Invitational with a jump of 6.45 meters – the second-highest mark in UM indoor history.
Also competing at Virginia Tech was junior Khadija Talley – the 2007 ACC Indoor Champion in the weight throw – who won the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 20.91 meters.
At the NCAA qualifying meet held at Iowa State, junior Lance Leggett posted an NCAA provisional time of 7.87 seconds in the finals of the men’s 60-meter hurdles to finish second overall.
Along with Leggett’s performance, senior Ginou Etienne and sophomore Krista Simkins finished third and sixth in the women’s 400 meters with NCAA provisional times of 53.56 and 53.91 seconds, respectively.
