Three Miami Players Earn 2006 All-ACC Academic Volleyball Team Honors

Coral Gables, Fla. – The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) named junior Michelle Bruin, junior Ciara Michel, and senior Jill Robinson to the ALL-ACC Academic Volleyball Team as announced today by Commissioner John D. Swofford.

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during her academic career.

For the second consecutive season, Bruin, a sports administration major, has been honored by the ACC for All-Academic team. The Chapel Hill native was also named to the 2006 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Team for the second year in a row.

In addition to this season’s honor, local Miami native Ciara Michel majoring in psychology, also earned ALL-ACC second team for her performance throughout the 2006 season.

Capturing her first conference academic team honor, Jill Robinson, a sports administration major from Merced, Calif. was also named to the 2004-2005 ACC Academic Honor Roll.

With a total of 32 student-athletes earning academic honors, at least one player from each of the conference’s 12 schools is represented on this year’s team.

Duke led all schools with six academic selections, followed by Virginia with four. Six schools (Boston College, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, North Carolina and Virginia Tech) received three nods apiece, while Clemson picked up two. Maryland, NC State and Wake Forest each placed one student-athlete on the team.
