Miami Has Successful Second Day at ACC Indoor Championships

CLEMSON, S.C. –

The University of Miami women’s track team tallied two first-place finishes and three All-ACC honors while the UM men’s team garnered an All-ACC accolade to highlight the second day of competition at the 2007 ACC Indoor Championships held at Clemson University.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

 

In the women’s competition, junior Khadija Talley won the weight throw with an NCAA provisional mark of 19.85 meters (65-01.50) while seniors Amy Seward, who earned All-ACC honors in the pentathlon Thursday, and Brenda Faluade finished first and second in the long jump with marks of 6.27 (20-07.00) and 6.18 meters (20-03.50), respectively.

 

After heading into the day in third place after four events senior Roland DaSilva wrapped up the final three events of the men’s heptathlon Friday with a total of 5,466 points, good for a third place finish and All-ACC status.

 

Several UM athletes qualified for the finals of their respective events, which will conclude with the third and final day of the ACC Championships Saturday, with some of the league’s top performances Friday.

 

In the women’s 400-meter prelims senior Ginou Etienne’s run of 54.64 was the second-fastest time of the day followed by sophomore Krista Simkins’ 55.14. In the 60-meter prelims freshman Ashley Dukes posted the second-fastest time with a 7.46 and had the 6th-fastest time in the 200-meter prelims with a 24.64. Sophomore Ena Leufroy also qualified for the 800-meter finals with a time of 2:11.20 in Friday’s prelims which was the third-fastest finish.

 

In the men’s 60-meter hurdle prelims junior Lance Leggett recorded the day’s third-fastest time with a 7.94 while junior Tim Harris’ 1:52.76 in the 800-meter prelims marked the day’s second-fastest time.

 

At the conclusion of the second day of action the UM women’s team sits in second place with 36 points while the men’s team stands in 11th through six events.

 

The final day of competition at the 2007 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships will begin Saturday morning with the women’s high jump at 10:30 a.m. and concludes with the women’s 4×400-meter relay finals at 3:40 p.m.
