Hernandez Promoted to Senior Associate AD, Frevola Joins Staff

Coral Gables, Fla. (www. hurricanesports.com) – – University of Miami Director of Athletics has announced the promotion of Tony Hernandez from Associate Athletic Director for Compliance to Senior Associate Athletic Director and the hiring of Jim Frevola as Associate Athletic Director for External Operations. Frevola will begin work at UM on February 20.
In his new position, Hernandez will serve as the number two person in the department and be in charge of day-to-day operations while Frevola will oversee marketing, ticket operations and media relations.
“Tony has proven to be an invaluable asset to the athletic department,” Dee said. He has always demonstrated leadership and exceptional performance. Tony is certainly worthy of this promotion.”
Regarding Frevola, Dee said “Jim has a proven track record of success wherever he has been. He has a familiarity with the Miami market and is a sports professional.”
Hernandez joined the UM athletic department in 1998 and has served in various capacities since that time. He began his career in academic services as a graduate assistant. He was hired full-time in 1999 as a Compliance Coordinator subsequently being promoted to Director of Compliance in 2002, Assistant AD for Compliance in 2004 and Associate AD for Compliance a year later. In 2005 he also was the Interim Associate AD for Development. Hernandez earned both his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees from the University of Miami.
Frevola, also a graduate of the University of Miami, was most recently Vice President of Sales for 790theticket where he was in charge of the Miami Dolphins Radio Network. From 2001 to 2005, he was Senior Director of Business Development and Marketing Partnerships for the Miami Dolphins and Dolphin Stadium. Prior to joining the Dolphins organization, Frevola was Director of Marketing Partnerships for the Florida Marlins for four seasons.
